DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATIONAL SCIENCES
Department of Educational Sciences is one of the five departments of Mersin University Faculty of Education which was established in 1999. For the first approximately three years, the department did not enroll any students and in the 2001-2002 academic year a master's degree program in Psychological Guidance and Counseling started. After completing its academic construction in 2002-2003, the department opened a bachelor’s degree in Psychological Guidance and Counseling in the division of Psychological Services in Education and started to enroll its first students in the undergraduate level.
There are four current divisions within the department: the Division of Measurement and Evaluation in Education, the Division of Curriculum and Instruction, the Division of Educational Administration Supervision Planning and Economy and the Division of Psychological Counseling and Guidance. Currently, all of these divisions have their own master’s degree programs. In addition, there are two active non-thesis master’s programs in the Division of Curriculum and Instruction and the Division of Educational Administration Supervision Planning and Economics. There are also doctoral programs in three divisions except for the Division of Educational Administration Supervision Planning and Economics.
The vision of the Department of Educational Sciences is to strengthen its divisions in terms of faculty members, to open doctoral programs in all divisions and to become a known academic center across Turkey.
In the Department of Educational Sciences there are currently 3 professors, 11 associate professors, 10 assistant professors and 14 research assistants. In addition to the research and publishing activities in its academic field, the Department of Educational Sciences- as a fundamental part of the Faculty of Education- is conducting lessons about Teaching Profession in not only the undergraduate programs but also Pedagogical Formation Certificate Program in the Faculty of Education. Moreover, the department hold conferences, panel discussions and seminars, in-service training, radio and television talks for the people of Mersin and many institutions and organizations in Mersin.
Last but not the least, studies and activities in the Center of Psychological Counseling and Guidance and the Center of Assessment and Evaluation are carried out with the support of faculty members in the Department of Educational Sciences.
